As the Exsultet proclaims on Easter night: “This is the night, when you first saved our fathers: you led the children of Israel out of Egypt and through the Red Sea on dry land. This is the night, when you destroyed the darkness of sin by the pillar of fire. This is the night, when all who believe in Christ are delivered from the gloom of sin and restored to grace and holiness of life.
