In Omega Power Ministries (OPM), founded and led by Apostle Dr. Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, the spiritual journey to total deliverance begins with one profound exercise: Mercy Prayer. This is not ordinary prayer. It is a one-day, solemn fast programme that precedes every OPM “Assignment” — the DIY (do-it-yourself) deliverance programme that has brought freedom to millions worldwide.
What is Mercy Prayer? It is a one-day fast programme that starts from 6:00 am in the morning and continues until 7:00 pm in the evening. The first hour, from 6:00 am to 7:00 am, is dedicated entirely to praise and worship. Then, from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm — for eleven solid hours — the only words permitted on your lips are: “O Lord, have mercy on me.” You may say it in your dialect if you prefer, but the focus remains unbroken. During this period, you are instructed to read Psalm 51 once every hour — at 7:00 am, 8:00 am, 9:00 am, and so on, until 5:00 pm. From 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, you return to praise and worship, closing the programme at exactly 7:00 pm.

The rules are strict. Your phones must be switched off. No television, no radio, no conversations with anyone. All your focus must be directed to God, pleading for mercy. Why? Because the Bible declares in Psalm 51:1: “Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.” Mercy is the foundation upon which deliverance is built. Without mercy, there is no forgiveness. Without forgiveness, there is no deliverance.

These OPM Mercy Prayers are designed to guide you through this solemn exercise. Whether you are doing your Mercy Prayer at the OPM International Headquarters at No. 1 OPM Close, Off Eliozu Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, or in the privacy of your home, these prayer points will help you maintain focus and plead your case before the throne of grace. Remember, as it is written in Hebrews 4:16: “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
Before you begin, prepare your heart. Confess every known sin. Make up your mind to obey God fully. Now, let us cry out for mercy, for mercy triumphs over judgment.
What Time Should I Pray OPM Mercy Prayers?
Timing is critical in the OPM Mercy Prayer programme. According to the instructions from Apostle Dr. Chibuzor Gift Chinyere and the OPM Headquarters, the Mercy Prayer follows a strict schedule that must be adhered to for the prayer to be effective. The enemy operates on timing, and your obedience to divine timing demonstrates your commitment to God.
The Mercy Prayer Schedule:
-
6:00 am to 7:00 am: Praise and Worship only. No prayer requests, no crying for mercy — just pure praise. This hour prepares your heart and invites the presence of God into your atmosphere. As Psalm 22:3 says, God inhabits the praises of His people.
-
7:00 am to 6:00 pm: The Mercy Cry. From 7:00 am until exactly 6:00 pm in the evening, your mouth must utter only one phrase: “O Lord, have mercy on me.” You may say it in your local dialect if you prefer, but the focus remains unbroken. During this period, you are to read Psalm 51 once every hour — at 7:00 am, 8:00 am, 9:00 am, 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, 3:00 pm, 4:00 pm, and finally at 5:00 pm. That is eleven times throughout the day.
-
6:00 pm to 7:00 pm: Praise and Worship again. You close the programme exactly at 7:00 pm with thanksgiving, praising God for hearing your cry for mercy.
Why this specific timing? Because Daniel prayed at set times (Daniel 6:10), and the early church had their hour of prayer (Acts 3:1). God honours order and obedience. When you follow the divine timetable, you position yourself for divine results.

What Are the Rules for Praying OPM Mercy Prayers?
The OPM Mercy Prayer comes with specific rules and regulations that must be strictly followed. These rules are not suggestions — they are requirements. Disobedience to any of these rules can nullify the effectiveness of your Mercy Prayer. As Apostle Dr. Chibuzor Gift Chinyere always emphasizes: “Obedience is better than sacrifice.”
The Complete Rules for OPM Mercy Prayer:
1. Your Phone Must Be Switched Off Completely
From 6:00 am to 7:00 pm, your phone must remain off. No calls, no text messages, no WhatsApp, no social media, no internet. This is a period of total separation from the world and complete focus on God. Moses separated himself on the mountain, and Elijah separated himself at the brook Cherith. Separation attracts divine visitation.
2. No Television, Radio, or Entertainment
You are forbidden from watching television, listening to radio, or engaging in any form of entertainment during the Mercy Prayer. Your eyes and ears must be consecrated to God alone. As it is written: “Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity” (Psalm 119:37).
3. No Conversations with Anyone
From 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, you must not speak to any human being except God. No greeting your spouse, no answering your children, no chatting with neighbours. If you live with others, inform them beforehand and isolate yourself in a room. Your focus must be undivided.
4. No Food or Water (The Fast)
Mercy Prayer is a dry fast. From 6:00 am to 7:00 pm, you consume no food and no water. This is a sacrifice of praise and a discipline of the flesh. As Esther said: “Fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink” (Esther 4:16).
5. Read Psalm 51 Every Hour
At the top of every hour — 7:00 am, 8:00 am, 9:00 am, 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, 3:00 pm, 4:00 pm, and 5:00 pm — you must pause and read Psalm 51 aloud. This Psalm is the prayer of David after his sin with Bathsheba, and it is the template for mercy.
6. Only One Phrase During the Mercy Cry
From 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, your mouth must speak ONLY “O Lord, have mercy on me” (or its equivalent in your dialect). No long prayers, no listing of requests, no fighting enemies — just mercy. When you need mercy, you present your case and let mercy speak.
7. You Must Be in a Quiet Place
Isolate yourself in a room where you will not be disturbed. If you are doing the Mercy Prayer at the OPM Headquarters, you will be guided to the appropriate hall. If at home, lock your door, inform your family, and create a sanctuary.
8. Praise at the Beginning and End
From 6:00 am to 7:00 am and from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, praise and worship only. No mercy cry during these hours. Praise invites His presence; thanksgiving seals your prayer.
9. Complete at Exactly 7:00 pm
You must not go beyond 7:00 pm. Stop exactly at 7:00 pm. This is obedience to divine timing.
Where Should I Pray OPM Mercy Prayers?
The Mercy Prayer can be done either at the OPM International Headquarters or in the privacy of your own home, but there are specific instructions for each location.
At the OPM International Headquarters:
The main Mercy Prayer programme is held at No. 1 OPM Close, Off Eliozu Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. When you come to the Headquarters, you will be directed to the Mercy Prayer hall where hundreds of believers gather simultaneously to cry out for mercy. There is power in corporate prayer, as Matthew 18:20 declares: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
In Your Home:
If you cannot make it to the Headquarters, you may do your Mercy Prayer at home. However, you must follow the same rules strictly. Choose a room where you will not be disturbed. Inform your family members that you are not to be interrupted for any reason from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm. Lock your door if necessary. Create an atmosphere of prayer — you may play soft instrumental worship music during the praise hours, but during the mercy cry hours, there must be no music, no distractions — just your voice crying out to God.
Why Is Mercy Prayer Necessary Before Deliverance?
In OPM theology and practice, Mercy Prayer is non-negotiable. It is the foundation upon which every other spiritual exercise is built. Without mercy, there can be no deliverance. Why?
1. Mercy Secures Forgiveness
Before God can deliver you, He must first forgive you. Sin gives the enemy legal ground in your life. When you cry for mercy, you are activating the forgiveness protocol. Psalm 51:1-2 says: “Have mercy upon me, O God… blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.”
2. Mercy Destroys the Works of the Enemy
Once mercy has secured forgiveness, the blood of Jesus speaks, and the works of the enemy are destroyed. Mercy opens the door for the power of God to flow into your situation.
3. Mercy Prepares You for the Assignment
The Mercy Prayer is followed by the Assignment — a 21-day, midnight DIY deliverance programme. But you cannot attempt the Assignment without first obtaining mercy. Mercy empowers you for the battles ahead. It cleanses your vessel so that the Holy Spirit can use you effectively.
4. Mercy Attracts Divine Favour
When mercy speaks, favour follows. Nehemiah found favour in the sight of the king because the mercy of God was upon him (Nehemiah 2). Your Mercy Prayer positions you for uncommon favour in every area of your life.
